Top 10 Super Bowl Commercials

terry tateIn honor of my wife and others who go to Super Bowl parties to eat fatty food, talk during the game, and watch commercials, I have put together my top 10 of all time Super Bowl ads for your review. If you feel like one is missing please add it to the list below or on the facebook fan page.

10. Herding Cats – EDS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SmgLtg1Izw

It’s number 10 because it’s hilarious but no one remembers what company the commercial was promoting. I’m not an advertising expert, but that seems like an important detail.

9. Beer Doritos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhgsz5DH7Mo

This commercial flew under the radar but is absolutely hilarious. The “you don’t know me” tag line can be heard on a regular basis in my office.

8. Miller Lite Catfight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFJBAYCC_Zg

This is one of the most egregious commercials ever but it is trying to be. That is what’s so brilliant about it; that and the great acting.

7. Jordan v. Bird for McDonalds Big Mac: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oACRt-Qp-s

This is a classic. While I love watching these two interact I have to ask, what is Michael Jordan wearing? It was 1993 but come on Mike. “I want to be, I want to be like Mike,” unless he’s wearing that outfit.

6. Rock, paper, scissors – Bud light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV0B3maUK0E

Simple, cheap laughs are always good. Bud Light routinely has the best advertising each year. This could have been the hidden Bud Light, the Fist Bump, and many others. There is rumor of a sequel to the Swear Jar, a non-Super Bowl commercial that tops them all.

5. Cindy Crawford Pepsi Can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcroQsUN60s

This is every little boys dream and one of the few old commercials that made my list. Cindy Crawford in the prime of her career looked great.

4. Michelob ‘Dark’ football: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_TtH-QgeLY&feature=related

It is funny to watch people get hit. In that respect, this commercial does not disappoint. Too bad a great commercial still won’t drive Michelob sales.

3. E-trade Baby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJqnitjqpuM

All of these commercials are great. My favorite is the shankapotomus golf version. But in this case you have to go with an original. Clowns are creepy.

2. Mean Joe Green – Coke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffOCZYX6F8

It can’t be number one because it isn’t funny and I will choose funny every time. However, any commercial that has a remake 20 years after the original has to be high on the list. Plus it’s Coke.

1. Terry the Office Linebacker – Reebok: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbSpAsJSZPc

This might be the best commercial ever, Super Bowl or not. It is great because it’s about football and it is over the top. I wish Terry was in my office to set people straight. As a former manager, I could see this working well with less motivated staff member. “Get ready for the pain…the pain train is coming.”
