As is true at the beginning of every new season the NFL jersey landscape is changing.
The 1st round selection of Tim Tebow by the Broncos has created quite a stir in Denver. That stir has translated into jersey sales for Tebow. While many were surprised that head coach Josh McDaniels would make the selection of Tebow well before most draft experts thought he would go, the charm of the good ole’ Florida golden boy seems to have worked on McDaniels and the mile high city. The most popular player in college football for the last 3 seasons was the NFL’s most popular player in April just ahead of the newly relocated QB McNabb.
News that Tebow’s April jersey sales outpaced the rest of the league (available for just 8 days following the draft) has inspired a money making “craft project” for one Denver business woman. According to the Denver Business Journal, Daniella Grieve of Lombardi Embroidery has cashed in on the excitement of the new rookie arrival by transforming old Brandon Marshall jerseys into new and improved Tim Tebow jerseys.
So Denver fans, don’t feel bad about your investment. Renew, reuse, recycle.
Anyone that has followed both Marshall and Tebow know that these two have very little in common. The commonalities include:
- their choice of football as a profession,
- their college roots in the state of Florida,
- and their use of the number 15 jersey in Denver.
In a city that is big on recycling, has a struggling economy, and was happy to see WR Brandon Marshall go, the transition seems like a great opportunity for thrifty fans.
Based on this new trend I plan to to hold on to my McNabb and Tomlinson jerseys for now. I can only hope that the Eagles reassign the number 5 to someone good before I am forced to clean out my tight Seattle closet. Maybe the number will be given to their next real prospect at QB if Kolb and Vick don’t get it done this season. Only time will tell.
