Don’t call it a comeback…yet. The Pete Carroll to Seattle story is exciting but I can’t help but wonder if it’s going to work out. Carroll has been fickle before with his name tied to searches following each of the last couple seasons. Peter King of Sports Illustrated says that he is almost certain that it’s going to happen but I’ll hold out for the official announcement. In the meantime, I have compiled a few reasons why this is a great fit for Carroll’s return to the NFL.
1.$35 million – That is almost exactly what Mike Shanahan signed for last week. It’s big money for a 5 year contact.
2. Seattle has talent – Despite what we all watched from Seattle over the last two months, the team has pieces in place to make a run at the playoffs next season. QB Matt Hasselbeck should be able to bounce back despite questions about his durability over the last couple seasons and the depth at linebacker and defensive line is promising.
3. The ability to seek out players – A new coach will want to make personnel changes and Carroll should be able to do quite a bit right away. Seattle is cash strong with the richest owner in the league, Paul Allen. They also have 2 picks in the 1st round of the upcoming draft. This will allow the team to get better along the offensive line, defensive secondary, and add depth at QB.
4. Final Decision Making – Seattle let go of their head coach and GM at the end of the season. Carroll will start with a new GM who will know that he must work with his head coach to find the right players for the scheme. Whoever takes the job will know that Pete has final say in all personnel matters.
5. Seattle is a great location for Carroll. It’s no secret that Pete is a west coast guy. He loves the water and has a house in Hawaii. I can’t blame him, I love living in Seattle as well.
Whatever the reasons are for Carroll’s decision, expectations will be high for a Seahawk team that has missed the playoffs for 4 straight years since losing in Super Bowl XL. Carroll is used to high expectations as top dog in the Pac10 and will be eager to prove that he can be better than average as an NFL head coach.

Best of luck to you all in Seattle when Pete comes to town, just ahead of the NCAA sanctions that they are going to lay down on the football program. Do you remember his pro record (losing…). Ah well, those of us in the Pac-10 might be just a little sad, now that we knew how to beat them!
He is not a sure thing by an stretch of the imagination and your probably right about the sanctions coming soon. Pete’s record wasn’t amazing but it was a winning record overall (33-31). I am hopeful that he can bring success to the NW.
I see you are experinced webmaster, what is the best method to monetize my first blog ?
